What is an outlier, and why does the score matter?
An outlier is a video that beats its own channel's performance. This can be by such a wide margin that it starts a new niche, or a strong outperformer in an established niche. Think of a niche as simply the type of content it is, and who watches it. The outlier score is a mathematical representation of the Outlier. A 12x symbol means the video pulled twelve times the channel's usual numbers, which tells you the idea did the work, not the existing subscriber count. A 2M-view video on a channel that averages 3M is just a normal day. A 200K-view video on a channel that averages 8K is a VERY good day for the channel owner. However, not every niche can achieve 1 million plus, or even 500k plus, views. There are just smaller audiences for certain channels. That means on a very specific channel, 100k views could be a massive outlier. This is why on Metarch, we have three scores so you can make the best judgement! A proprietary score that removes the effects of outliers on a channel and better assesses the overall performance of the niche, an average view outlier, and of course, a subscriber based outlier. A new channel with only a few thousand subs regularly pulling massive views? Now that's a breakthrough channel!
Why three scores instead of one?
So, assuming you read the above answer and want to learn more: because one number lies and many competitors not only use only one number, they do not properly consider the general health of the channel. Average is dragged around by a single viral video but still gives you indicators. A channel with one 5M video looks impossible to beat when the rest of its catalogue sits at 40K. Our Metarch Score ignores that and shows the honest performance along with the average. The subscriber score catches the third case: a video doing numbers far beyond the channel's audience size, which is almost always the idea of an outlier. New channels, banger vids, banger views. Metarch shows you all three and lets you filter on whichever one matters for what you're doing. Because each niche is different, and sometimes you want leads for your business and not vanity views…. But we all still love vanity views, don't we?
How is this different from the other YouTube tools?
Most of them score a video against a snapshot of the channel as it is today. That is wrong the moment a channel grows, because a video from two years ago is being compared to an audience that did not exist yet. Our scores adapt to when the video was published. Yes, we have moving baselines for EACH channel that adapt to how often it uploads and how videos perform over time (evergreen). However, this is only for channels added today where no outliers were tracked before. This enables you to see how a video has been performing over the past year or more and thus not missing out on high quality research. Any video released NOW that becomes an outlier? Always an outlier with its data frozen…. with one exception: we update the views automatically every few days! This gives a real sense of how well the outlier performed relative to when it was released. We also show you the Top 10 from every channel you track rather than only the ones that crossed a threshold, so you see the full shape of a channel instead of its highlight reel. Oh, right: Yes, this is for long form and shorts. All rules apply to both and the data does not mix.
Do I have to connect to my YouTube channel?
No. You can research, build watchlists, and plan ideas without connecting anything. Connecting your channel adds your own analytics next to the research, which is the point of growing your channel, but it is entirely optional and you can disconnect at any time. Nobody else on Metarch can see it, we never sell it or train anything on it, and you can revoke access whenever you want - for your eyes only, and straight from YouTube.
What can Metarch actually see on my channel?
Read-only access, and only two things with YOUR permission first: your channel and video list with their public statistics visible to everyone and published by Google, and your own aggregate analytics like views and watch time which you have to give specific permission for. It shows on your profile in advanced analytics and gives you a full look at your channel health over time and where to focus your next steps! Again, nobody else sees it. Only you. Metarch cannot post, edit, delete or schedule anything, because we never ask for the permission that would allow it. You can revoke access from your Google account at any time and we delete the cached data within 30 days so you're always safe.
Is the free plan a real plan or a trial?
A real plan. Not a trial and not a fake free plan that really doesn't allow you to do anything. Metarch's free plan literally lets you use it on your primary channel. If this changes in the future (it probably won't but just in case), you will maintain free access for at least 12 months after the fact with zero change to your access. You get access to unlimited ideas for one channel's production workflow, 3 isolated ideas outside of the channel for different channel work, the ability to track competitors fully and be notified of their views, as well as the Thumbnail Visualizer to see how your thumbnails look before upload, along with everything else listed above on this webpage. It is enough to run a channel properly, but obviously full access to the Outlier Vault and other features requires the Professional Subscription.
Does Metarch work in my niche?
Yes. We gather data by hand across niches rather than being tuned to one which allows useless noise to distract you from the point of outliers: data relevant to YOUR channels. Remember our outlier scores do not care whether your niche does 20K averages or 20M. If a niche is thin in the vault you can add channels to it yourself through your own Channel Discovery and Metarch will gather and score them. A high quality, cultivated outlier vault you can actually use.
How does this help me track competitors?
Simply put: any channels you put into your Channel Discovery are now a part of your notification system, which you can fully customize. Not only can you see the best performing keywords for titles based on all the Outlier Metrics, but you will also be notified whenever a new upload becomes an outlier or an existing video gains momentum. It's important to track both! Now you don't have to open 23 tabs of all the videos you track to see whether an outlier has shown up or not. This is my favourite feature. Morning coffee, rain, some absolute blasting death metal, and scouting through Metarch's competitor notifications while seeing my own analytics. One place for happiness.
What happens when I hit a limit on the free plan?
Well, it means you're probably doing a great job on YouTube, well done! The particular feature or limitation you've reached will be blocked with a note about which limit you hit. Everything you already made stays exactly where it is, and it is all there waiting if you upgrade later.
Can I cancel, and do I get my money back?
Cancel any time from your account, in two clicks, with no email required - direct from your user profile dropdown on the top right of the website. You keep full access until the end of the period you paid for. If you convert to a higher tier, we'll subtract for the time you've already paid so you don't lose any money. However, we cannot offer refunds due to 1) the fees we pay on each membership cannot be gained back and 2) the information on the website and the benefits will have been consumed on day 1, and they cannot be unconsumed. That would be neat, but personally I feel we're not quite close enough to that level of brain surgery that anyone should do it.
What is the Strategist tier for?
Simply put: Either a creator/channel owner with many channels (or one channel like the old days) who wants to track their full financials and all sources of income, track their views over the months and years, while also getting advanced breakdowns over which streams of income or niches are doing the most work in their portfolio. However, the real power of the Strategist Command is the ability for ACTUAL strategists to manage other people's channels. It adds finance and portfolio tracking across every client channel, allows you to add agencies for which you work or consult, AND lets you invite clients into their own account for free so they can see the research and ideation of their channels for a strong partnership. They also get extra features that would otherwise not be available on a free plan! Amazing.
Will this give me more views and revenue?
Yes, it should. We can't guarantee that for legal reasons, obviously, but if you use the website to its FULLEST, Metarch believes in being the only website you need to access other than YouTube in order to deliver supreme content to your audience and manage your portfolio in a way that saves you time, reduces stress, and gives you an unfair advantage in ideation, research, competitor analysis, and tracking your portfolio.
